Why product images can be more useful than keywords
A Nigerian buyer may have seen a product on TikTok or in a local shop without knowing its exact Chinese name. Image-based search can help discover visually similar listings when a marketplace or sourcing tool supports it.
Visual similarity is not specification equivalence. Two products may share the same manufacturer photo but use different materials or electronics internally.
Prepare a useful reference picture
Crop out watermarks and unrelated background where possible, but do not misrepresent the product. Use a clear view showing design, connectors, distinctive dimensions or packaging. If you have multiple angles, keep them together.
Write down anything the photo cannot tell you: preferred voltage, size, color, material, market certifications, branding and target unit quantity.

Search, shortlist and compare
Try supported image search on the relevant Chinese platform or provide the photo to a sourcing team. Build a shortlist of multiple matches and inspect each listing for variants, minimum quantity, seller history, China delivery terms and dimensions.
Do not assume the first result is the original manufacturer. Ask suppliers for real goods photos, model numbers and a short video confirming key functionality.
Avoid brand and counterfeit trouble
An image may contain a logo or design protected by intellectual-property rights. Ask whether the seller is authorized and whether the goods can legally be imported and resold. Passing off a copy as an original product can create seizure and customer-trust problems.
For private-label products, request permitted customization and confirm who owns the artwork and tooling.
